Stay Safe & Sane!
If you deal with anxiety, depression or any other mental health issue, you already know life is a difficult balancing act between being able to cope and hiding away from it all. Most of us are hard on ourselves already: I’m not good enough, I say the wrong things, they probably hate me…you know the thoughts. Well, now ‘regular’ people are getting a taste of daily anxiety and depression, and ours has tripled.
This is the time to be OK with not being OK. It’s OK to feel fearful, nervous or anxious. It’s NORMAL to be sad, down and lonely in these conditions. Let the feelings come, listen to them, accept them and let them pass. Ignoring it makes it worse and gives the negativity more power over us.
Think of your feelings and emotions like ships in the water: Happy Ship, Angry Ship, Fearful Ship all drifting in the same direction down a river. You are sitting on the banks of the river and see them coming. You like the Happy ship, that one can come to port, but the Fearful and Angry Ships, well those aren’t welcome here. So you wade out into the water to stop them, and you can guess how that ends. But if you just watch and accept that all the Ships have a purpose, and remember that none of them stay in port forever.
Reach out to friends and family, you might be surprised to know how many ‘normal’ people are now experiencing anxiety and depression on levels they have never felt before. You could have the wise words a friend needs to hear! It is uplifting to help others, and making someone smile can better your whole day. Or, maybe you just need someone to listen to you, and then you listen to them. Now, more than ever, we are the experts in this Pandemic situation: nobody knows fear and sadness like a #mentalhealthwarrior.
